The cursor is created itself by default when DML (data manipulation language) statements like, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements are executed. We use the cursor when we need to update records in a database table in singleton fashion means row by row. A set of rows the cursor holds is called the active set. The cursor can hold more than one row, but it can process only one row at a time. These temporary work areas are used to store the data to retrieve from the database and manipulate this data. The cursor contains information on a select statement and the rows of data accessed by it. The cursor is in SQL a temporary work area created in the system memory when a SQL statement is executed.
